Vacation Application Period

As per Paragraph 202 (b) of the National Agreement, the application period for vacation time off is February 1-29.  Management has identified the weeks of July 2, and July 9, as plant vacation shut-down weeks.  Members may apply for time-off for eligible vacation time hours in excess of the 72 hours identified in the plant vacation shut-down period as stated in Para. 202 (d) of the N/A.  Para. 194 of the N/A designates that the first forty (40) hours of eligibility is “VR”, for personal time off.  Personal days will only be applied to vacation shut-down weeks if requested by the member. EXAMPLE: Member has (80) hours of eligibility; first (40) hours is designated as “VR”.  Therefore, (40) hours will be applied to vacation shutdown.  The (40) hours of “VR” remaining will only be applied if member requests it.  Week/Days not covered by vacation will be coded leave of absence.

Skilled Trades Consolidation

Effective Monday, January 30, the last part of the 2007/2009 Addendum to the National Agreement mandated by the Trade Consolidation and Merging of non-core trades was implemented with the Electrician/WEMR merger.  All obligations under the N/A have now been fulfilled.  There are now three (3) Skilled Trades groups in our plant.  The new Local Agreement will reflect that change by identifying the three (3) groups as Tool & Die, Electricians and Mechanical Group.  Mechanical Group will contain all Skilled Trades Classifications (Pipefitters, Machine Repair, Millwright/ Welder, Truck Repair, Carpenters and Painters) not identified as an Electrician or Tool & Die Maker.  Tool & Die will be in two (2) non-interchangeable groups identified as Press Tool & Die and Body Shop Tool & Die.  Electricians will also be two (2) non-interchangeable groups identified as Press/WFG Electrician and Body Shop Electrician.  Seniority Journeymen Tool & Die Makers and Electricians may move between groups by exercising their rights to move by Paragraph 63, of the N/A, as openings occur.

Paragraph 63's Purged in March

All members are advised that on March 5, 2012, as per our Local Agreement, all Para. 63 applications will be purged.  Any member after March 5, who continues to be interested in transferring to another department needs to re-submit their Para. 63 applications.  If submitting more than one, they should be numbered as to the order you would like them honored.

GM Profit Announcement

General Motors is set to announce their 2011 profits on February 16.  Early Wall Street estimates are that it will be around 8 billion dollars with China auto sales adding significantly to the bottom line.  All members need to remember that according to the National Agreement, the profit sharing for our members is based on North American operations only.  Wall Street is also predicting that North American profits will be very strong.

Phase II of Skilled Trades SAP

All applications for the second phase of the SAP (Special Attrition Package) have been sent up north and we are currently waiting for a reply on those who will be offered positions and those who have been approved to retire.  There were (60) active Skilled Trade members who signed for the retirement package and currently (25) have been approved.  It is expected that additional approvals will be sent down from the National Parties in the next two weeks.  It is also expected that at that time, the third and final phase of the SAP will begin.
